What I Want to Know About My Topic

I chose my topic because I had a personal connection with it. I also chose it because I love video games and I have a firm belief that there is an age restriction for a reason. There are some questions I have about my topic that I will find the answers to in my research. The answers to these questions will give you a better understanding of what really goes on inside a child's mind when they are exposed to content in games that they should not witness. My questions are:

     1. How do childrens' mindsets change from playing mature video games?
     2. Are girls affected by mature video games as much as boys are?
     3. Should children be allowed to play mature games?
     4. What if the child were to reenact something from a mature game?
     5. Why would children want to copy what they see or hear in the mature games?

It's a State of Mind

Picture this: you have just arrived home and you walk in on your child committing a crime on a mature video game. After a few days, you notice your child getting angrier and agitated more easily. Your child starts hitting people and yelling more often. Could that video game have possibly caused your child’s violence and anger to escalate? For a period of time, this was what happened with my cousin. When he was eight years old, he started playing video games that were far too mature for his age. These games had contained violence, explicit language, sexual acts and references, and the use of drugs and alcohol. He played these games and his mother would not know what they were about, so she had no idea that the games were completely inappropriate for his age. I sat down with her and explained that these video games were not meant for a child’s eyes. After she took them away from him, he started to calm down more and stopped hitting people over every little thing. Now, the question is: why do childrens’ mindsets change from playing mature video games? My goal is to inform you of the effects of playing these games on a child’s state of mind so that you know to keep these games out of a child’s hands.
